We would like to welcome you to Temple Baptist Church!

The purpose of Temple Baptist is to carry out the Great Commission in Charles City, Iowa, and the surrounding area.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commissions His disciples to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded.”

The purpose of everything that we do at Temple Baptist is to glorify God in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We seek to be disciples and to make disciples. We seek to observe all that He has commanded, loving God with all our hearts and loving our neighbors as ourselves. And we seek to be living testimonies of the life-changing power of the gospel in our lives.

Our Story:

Temple Baptist began when six families of believers began meeting together in homes for Bible study and prayer in 1967. The families rented the Legion Hall, and the first church service was held on December 17, 1967, with Missionary Bud Taylor as Pastor. The State of Iowa approved the Articles of Incorporation on August 1, 1968, and the church was accepted into the GARBC on May 22, 1969.

God has continued to bless Temple Baptist Church since those first families began meeting together, and we praise Him for what He has done in and through our church. We look forward to many more years of faithful ministry in Charles City, IA!

Our Pastor:

Pastor Adam Whitty grew up in Ohio and Wisconsin, and as a teenager, he spent time in Ghana, West Africa, where his parents are missionaries. Adam studied Elementary Education at Faith Baptist Bible College and taught overseas for a few years before returning to Iowa and pursuing a Masters Degree at Faith Baptist Theological Seminary.

Adam graduated from the seminary in May 2015, began pastoring Temple Baptist Church in June, and married Erin in August. (That was a big year!) Pastor and Erin now have four children.

Pastor Adam enjoys coffee, vintage Lego sets, and telling crazy stories for his four little boys!
